Back to school time is always bitter sweet. It signals the end of lazy (hopefully) sunny days and fun times with our children. This year, however, also brings added anxiety compared to previous years. How will school look for our children this year?

This year parental involvement will be more important than ever to the academic success of our children whether they are in school or at home. Studies have linked parental involvement with improved child behavior, regular school attendance, improved academic achievement, and an overall positive attitude of children toward school.

Whether our children admit it or not, being an involved parent will make them aware of how much you care about their education. Being involved helps our children know that they can come to us as parents when they face challenges at school be it an academic challenge or challenges with peers.

Children do model adult behaviors, and when children see parents actively participating in their education they will hopefully realize the importance of education. Parental involvement can boost a child’s self-esteem, motivation, and discipline. Ultimately parental involvement helps children to develop into happy, productive, and responsible members of society.

While school this year may look different than it did at the beginning of last year, the importance of parental involvement does not change. In fact, parental involvement will be all the more crucial. So please, whether your child is physically back in class or continues online learning, stay involved in their education!
