Many homeowners will be dusting off their dining room tables this month to prepare for Thanksgiving, one of the most cherished holidays of the year. The dining room becomes the focal point where family and friends will share their achievements, indulge in great food and time together, and talk about dreams for the New Year. The dining room, which may be ignored for most of the rest of the year, now becomes the “family” room and a place of togetherness
All of us on The Margolis Team wish you and your family a wonderful time of thanks. We hope you enjoy this special holiday and take the time to slow down and be thankful for what we all have.
We are thankful to our loved ones who allow us to work the long hours and on Sundays to help other families find their new homes and places for holiday gatherings.
We are also adding to our family. If you are interested in real estate and want to join the #1 real estate company in the United States and the world, Keller Williams, please give Brian Margolis a call at 720-352-0454.

I love the fall! This time of year really is fun. Football is back, cool weather is here, and great color changes are all around us. Yard clean up time is here again, the holiday season is just getting started and ski season is just around the corner. So, are you ready to enjoy and participate in all the activities leading up to the holidays?
That might be hard to do if you are living with pain. Did you get hurt recently or have you been dealing with a painful problem for some time now? My question to you is: “Are you are ready to get rid of it?” It may seem like a silly question but I hear it all the time: “Doc, I didn’t come in to see you right away because I thought it would just go away.” If you’re lucky, it did. If pain is stopping you in your tracks and you are still missing out on activities you used to enjoy, now is the time to do something about it.
I specialize in natural, non-invasive, non-surgical pain relief combining gentle chiropractic adjustments, Cold Laser Therapy, Applied Kinesiology, and a variety of other natural healing methods. Over the last 32 years I have developed a holistic, whole person method in working with my patients. I recognize that you are a unique person and when it comes to your problem you need to have your pain assessed and treated on an individual basis.
Have you tried painless Cold Laser Therapy? The Cold Laser is my “go to” tool for amazing results and fast relief when all else has failed. It can help with back pain, joint pains, sciatica, knee pain, fibromyalgia and plantar fasciitis. Would you like to get rid of your pain?
My passion is helping people get out of pain without drugs or surgery. I’d love to help you enjoy a happy holiday season this year. The holidays are weeks away and you have a lot to do, don’t you? How would you like to do it all pain-free?
Give me a call and let’s see what we can do together to get you out of pain and improve your quality of life following conservative non-invasive treatments. You can’t really enjoy holiday traditions and festivities if you’re living in pain.
Wishing you and your family a Healthy and Happy Thanksgiving!

With our unseasonably warm weather this Fall, it seems like The Holiday Season has been sneaking up on us when we weren’t looking. Halloween decorations give way to cornucopias and turkey likenesses, with snowmen and Santas making ready to edge their way upstairs from their off -season basement homes to decorate our interiors and exteriors. It’s time to start thinking about the Holidays!
Thanksgiving, to me, is a wonderful time to reflect on the many things we’re thankful for. It’s easy, however, to find something to give thanks for every day as our hours are filled with high and low moments, but, there’s always a time you feel blessed and want to smile or remark to another that a good thing just happened. I feel like that’s the essence of Thanksgiving. With that thought, there are many people I want to acknowledge and show appreciation as they make this publication possible. Kovas Lapsys and Sara Line Bjorn Frisk have teamed up to work toward making our magazine graphically interesting and the ads effective. Sara has reworked our website which we plan to grow substantially in 2016 and has given our readers a chance to see The Brighton Buzz online and connect with our advertisers individually through our Business Directory. We’re excited for what’s to come in that regard. Rhonda Thompson lends her photographic talent, when needed, and will always take that winning picture to highlight an ad. We work together to do the best job we can to bring lots of information and opportunities to purchase products or services and engage in this wonderful community and surrounding areas through reading The Brighton Buzz. It’s a pleasure to be able to work with such a talented group and I give thanks for what we’ve accomplished and look forward to doing in the future.
We’re more than thankful for our advertisers and the support they’ve given to the publication through the years. Our growth has come from learning about them and assisting as best we can to grow their businesses. It’s an honor to be able to do that and we can never say “thank you” enough. The knowledge gained from our experiences is something that is ongoing an irreplaceable. And lastly, but certainly not least, we thank our readers for their interest in our magazine and willingness to support our advertisers. Every effort we make is geared toward that happening and we’re thankful you read our magazine!
Enjoy this Holiday Season.
Happy Thanksgiving to All!

Tax deadline is October 15th
Taxpayers, if you haven’t yet filed your 2014 tax return you have less than a month to do so. October 15th is the last day to file if you filed for a six-month extension. If you didn’t file an extension by April 15th, you should file and pay any taxes due as soon as possible, as this will stop the interest and penalties you may owe for filing late. Remember there is NO penalty for filing a late return if you are due a refund.
The IRS would like to remind taxpayers who received advance payments of the premium tax credit in 2014 that they should file their 2014 tax return as soon as possible, even if you’re usually not required to file. You MUST file to reconcile the premium tax credit you took. Otherwise, you will be ineligible for the advance payments of the premium tax credit or cost-sharing reductions to help pay your Marketplace health insurance in 2016, causing you to be responsible for the full cost of the monthly premiums.
Did you file an Extension?

I had small pets like fish, turtles and a cat growing up. When I met my wife, the world of dogs came with her. Her two Border Terriers were part of the package and we became active in canine sports like Agility, Earthdog, where terriers follow their natural instinct to follow a scent underground into tunnels, and now Barn Hunt trials.
After events, I noticed that sometimes the dogs would come back from activities a little worse for wear. Just like my active human patients, our dogs would have some mobility issues such as a painful back, stiff and soreness when moving around and they might be a little grouchy around the edges indicating some pain and discomfort.
While we were still living in New Jersey, I heard about animals getting adjusted and met, Dr. SueAnn, a mobile Veterinarian who specialized in canine chiropractic. We began having our dogs adjusted and I noticed they were moving so much better and even their attitudes improved. SueAnn became one of my mentors and showed me how to work with our dogs.
We moved to Colorado in 2007 and patients began inquiring if Chiropractic and Cold Laser Therapy could help with horses as well as small animal companions. I began studying Veterinary Chiropractic to get a better understanding of the inner and outer workings of all our companion and farm animals. Besides being a DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) I am also a CVCP (Certified Veterinary Chiropractitioner).
I have a passion for helping all beings get out of pain and feel better. I work together with your Veterinarian for the well-being and pain relief of your companion and farm animals. I use a combination of manual and instrument adjusting with Cold Laser Therapy to restore your animal’s mobility, reduce inflammation and relive pain.
One of my patients recently called me a “multi-species” practitioner. I treat her entire family including her three horses and dog. What I do is for everyone. Chiropractic care is non-invasive natural healthcare using no drugs or surgery. Through chiropractic and cold laser, the innate healing ability of the body works better by restoring proper function to the spine and nervous system.
If you or your animal friend are tired of being in pain, call me and we can discuss how to start feeling better.
No one is living if they are living in pain, even animals!

Natural Solutions through Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine
While pregnancy and birth are perfectly normal and natural processes, they can still be a huge strain on a woman’s health. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine provide safe and natural relief for many conditions, from pre-conception to post-partum care. Here are some aspects of pregnancy for which Chinese medicine is helpful:
Infertility: Acupuncture is great on its own, or as an adjunct to western medical fertility treatments. Studies have shown that acupuncture significantly increases the success rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF), and for a procedure that can be physically, emotionally and financially draining, acupuncture provides fantastic support.
Pre-conception: Even in the absence of fertility issues, acupuncture prior to conception can benefit overall wellness during pregnancy. If menstruation is irregular, acupuncture and herbal medicine for 4-6 cycles prior to conception is recommended.
Pregnancy: One of the most common complaints I see amongst pregnant women is morning sickness. Symptoms generally abate after the first trimester, but acupuncture and herbal medicine can often provide much faster relief. Other common pregnancy symptoms treated by Chinese medicine are emotional conditions, including depression and anxiety, as well as pain and swelling.
Inducing Labor: The requests I receive to induce labor often sound something like this: “Hi, I need to schedule an acupuncture session, because if I don’t go into labor within three days, my doctor is going to induce.” While sometimes we can make things happen at that point, it is much easier if we have a little more time! It’s best to establish a relationship with an acupuncturist at least several weeks ahead of your due date to prepare your body for labor.
Post-partum care: This is the most overlooked part of pregnancy care, but is very important to the mother’s recovery. It is unrealistic for many people to take six weeks of rest (which is what my OB/GYN teacher recommended), but try as best you can to create a schedule that allows you to recover at home for at least three weeks. Acupuncture and herbal tonics can help rebuild energy after blood loss and exhaustion from labor, and are also useful for lactation difficulties, mastitis, and post-partum depression.

Diarrhea is a very common pediatric problem. The vast majority of diarrhea in children is caused by a viral infection of the intestines. This usually starts with 1-2 days of vomiting and low-grade fevers followed by a week or more of diarrhea. The chief risk of diarrhea in children is dehydration. If your child has diarrhea, try to give them as much liquid as possible. The best liquids are water and Pedialyte. A large amount of juice, Gatorade or milk can make the diarrhea worse. You can also use a probiotic to help decrease the duration of the diarrhea. Avoid over-the-counter diarrhea medicines as these can be dangerous in young children. If your child is becoming dehydrated, has blood in their diarrhea or vomit, has had the diarrhea for more than1-2 weeks or has other symptoms you are concerned about, please make an appointment with your pediatrician. Please see www.brightonpeds.com for more information about diarrhea.
Please see www.brightonpediatrics.com for more information about treating fever and viral illnesses.

While fall brings color changes and cooler temperatures, it also brings the beginning of the “sick season” and Influenza. Below is some helpful information to keep you and your family healthy this year!
What is the difference between the common “flu” and influenza?
The common “flu” is typically used to describe a viral stomach illness that causes stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea; this is typically not caused by the Influenza virus. Influenza is a specific type of virus that causes a much more serious respiratory illness. Typical symptoms of Influenza include: runny nose, cough, body aches, headaches, high fevers and exhaustion. Occasionally people with the influenza virus will have vomiting and/or diarrhea. Influenza can lead to hospitalization if severe.
What is the best way to protect yourself from illness?
Whether trying to avoid a cold, a stomach illness or Influenza, the best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands often, avoid people who are ill and maintain healthy habits. To prevent Influenza, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a yearly influenza vaccine.
Does the Influenza Vaccine work?
Yes, the vaccine prevents or lessens illness in people exposed to the virus. The Influenza vaccine is created each season to protect against the types of the virus that research predicts will be the most common for that particular season. It protects against 3 or 4 types of the virus and is offered in both shot and nasal spray form.

An Arapahoe County jury recently convicted James Holmes of 24 counts of First Degree Murder. Many people expected that he would receive the death penalty.
But, following the penalty phase of his trial, the jurors did not reach unanimous agreement on death. The result is that Holmes will face life without parole in the Colorado Department of Corrections. This raises the question of whether prosecutors will continue to seek the death penalty in future cases.
Consider the following: There are currently only three people on death row in Colorado; Robert Ray (sentenced to death in 2009), Sir Mario Owens (sentenced to death in 2008), and Nathan Dunlap (sentenced to death in 1996).
Colorado’s last execution was in 1997, almost 20 years ago, when Gary Lee Davis, 53, was executed by lethal injection.
In 2013, Governor Hickenlooper granted Nathan Dunlap a Death Sentence Reprieve, stating, “If the State of Colorado is going to undertake the responsibility of executing a human being, the system must operate flawlessly. Colorado’s system for capital punishment is not flawless.”
Given Hickenlooper’s action, the difficulty involved in persuading juries to impose the death penalty, and the inevitable time and expense that death penalty cases involve, it may be that many District Attorneys in Colorado will be less inclined to seek the death penalty in the near future.
(At time of this writing, the high-profile death penalty trial of Dexter Lewis is underway in Denver. Lewis has been found guilty of murdering five people. However, the jury has yet to decide if he should be sentenced to death, or life in prison.)
