It’s easy to become overwhelmed with trying to get it all done and get it done well. Work stress, family stress, household responsibilities. The fact is everyone has to deal with some sort of stress in their daily lives and the results of stress can be disastrous. We don’t sleep well, we tend to eat poorly, we snap unnecessarily at our loved ones. It can also lead to worse problems: headaches, high blood pressure, and depression just to name a few.

The good news is, although we can’t control a lot of what stresses us, we can control how we react to our stressors and in healthy, productive ways. The next time you are feeling overwhelmed, you can try one, or better yet, a combination of the following:

  1. Deep breathing: take a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds, slowly exhale. Repeat until you feel calmer.
  2. Go for a 10 minute walk. Even if it’s cold outside! The fresh air and vitamin D will do your mind and body wonders.
  3. Delegate your responsibilities if and where you can. Realize that you are only one person and can only do so much.
  4. Eat healthier. What you put into your body matters. Make good food choices and watch your stress levels decrease.
  5. Exercise! It’s the most underutilized tool people have and the one thing you should be doing regularly. Physical activity releases endorphins that make you feel GREAT!

Here’s to hoping you find ways to deal with stress that work for you so that you can have your nose to that grindstone and still feel great!
