Sometimes we just need to pause and remember. In memorial I would like to honor these Deputies and Officers:
In just the last few months our state has had three Colorado Sheriff’s deputies gunned down.
Deputy Zackari Parrish was killed in an “ambush-style” shooting on New Year’s Eve which also injured Deputy Mike Doyle, Deputy Taylor Davis, and Police Officer Tom O’Donnell.
Deputy Heath Gumm was fatally wounded on January 25th, 2018 in Thornton, CO in pursuit of an assault suspect.
Deputy Micah Flick was shot and killed during a struggle with a car theft suspect in Colorado Springs. Three other law enforcement officers were shot and/or injured during the incident: Deputy Scott Stone, Deputy Sgt. Jake Abendschan and police detective Marcus Yanez.
We would like to honor these heroes. There is nothing we could do which would be enough. Some have paid the ultimate price; but let us remember them.
Our communities are filled with Deputies and Officers who enforce the law and work to protect the safety of all of us. They serve our communities to make them better, safer and a more enjoyable place to live.
Let us also remember, to quote Brighton Police Chief Paul Southard (from the Brighton Police website brightonco.gov) “It is collaboration between police and community. The police no longer are the sole guardians of law and order; all members of our community become active allies in the efforts to enhance the safety and quality of our neighborhoods.”
Let us be proud of our communities and help serve in any way we are able.
