Herbed Potato GratinI love Au Gratin potatoes! This recipe is from Williams Sonoma and it’s their Herbed Potato Gratin. If you want it plain just omit the herbs and it’s still awesome.

375 F-Butter an 11-inch gratin or shallow dish
1 ½ C heavy cream
1 garlic clove, minced
1 t chopped fresh rosemary
1 t chopped fresh thyme
½ t chopped fresh sage
2 lbs russet potato
½ onions, thinly sliced
3 C grated Gruyere cheese
¼ grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper to taste

Combine cream, garlic, rosemary, thyme, sage and pinch of salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and set aside. Peel potatoes. Cut into slices about 1/8 inch thick. Stir potato slices into cream, gently. Take 1/3 of potato slices and arrange in dish, slightly over-lapping. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, ½ the onions and 1 C of Gruyere. Repeat using the next 1/3 potato slices, salt and pepper, all remaining onions, and 1 C of Gruyere. Top with remaining potatoes, salt and pepper and using a spatula press on the potatoes to compact them. Pour cream mixture over potatoes and sprinkle with rest of Gruyere and Parmesan.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake until tender, about 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes or more. Let the gratin rest 10 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.

Serves 6 to 8.
