What Happens when you get 76,000 + people together in one place on a Saturday before a football game? Tailgating is one of the most fun parts of watching a football game (both college and pro), but it isn’t one of the most environmentally friendly.

There are some practical ways that fans can green their tailgating and still have fun. Ready to find out how?

1. Carpool with Friends
Heading to the game with a group of friends? Don’t drive separately. Not only will it lower emissions but you can also split the cost of parking, which is usually pretty expensive, Plus, you
can have a designated driver that can get you home safely after the game.

2. Bring reusable plates, utensils and cups
Most tailgaters use disposable plates and silverware. While that might seem like the most convenient option, it definitely not the greenest. Go reusable and cut down on the waste and you can clean them in the dishwasher when you get home.

3. Low-waste or zero-waste food
Avoid individually wrapped foods, buy in bulk and bring fresh food whenever possible. This will cut down on the amount of waste you have to dispose of at the end of the day.

4. Choose propane over charcoal or wood grill
While all grills emit some form of fossil fuels, propane burns much cleaner than traditional charcoal or wood methods. Plus, its easier to clean up at the end of a game and you don’t have to find a place to put your leftover coal or ash.

5. Leave only footprints, take only memories
Its a pretty easy concept ~ take everything you brought with you. Don’t leave any trash behind

Happy Football Season!
