The Holiday season with its social gatherings and parties is just around the corner. For many it is a time of joy and excitement. For those with untreated hearing loss, it can be a time of anxiety and frustration. The background noise at holiday gatherings may make it impossible for someone with hearing loss to understand words and phrases, let alone follow a conversation or catch a humorous punchline.

The difficulty of hearing and understanding in noise can lead to depression, despair, fatigue, frustration, loneliness or isolation.

Over the past decade, countless individuals have shared with me their stories of embarrassment at not hearing and understanding children, grandchildren, friends and others. One of my greatest rewards is having a patient get hearing aids and report back that they were finally able to participate in conversations that previously were difficult or impossible. Patients have shared their joy of how they heard better in a group; understood a grandchild for the first time; heard a joke and laughed not just because everyone else was laughing, but because they actually understood the punchline; and felt more relaxed, less anxiety and more energized after a large gathering.

At Blue Ribbon Hearing & Tinnitus Center, the process of better hearing begins with a comprehensive hearing evaluation, followed by a detailed explanation of the problem, then a customized solution recommendation for treating the hearing loss. If a hearing loss is found and amplification is appropriate, every type and style of daily wear hearing aids is available.
