Offered by Kristy Hitchings, Into Your Hands-Africa
Bananas, maize, beans and pigs. Namuli Sylivia tends them all in rural Uganda, along with her six children all elementary school age. Sylivia’s formal education ended at a middle school level with her family’s failure to afford school fees. But she is bright, energetic and willing to learn. And she refuses to end her quest for her children’s continued education. We joined Sylivia with a local group of women to learn and improve skills such as agricultural efficiency and household accounting.
The Into Your Hands Africa Women’s Enterprise training program will help Sylivia and her friends start up individual and cooperative businesses such as large scale poultry farms, which is Sylivia’s goal. The women in the Enterprise program will change the local economics of the rural Makando area, and serve as role models and leaders for the women as they achieve business success.
Into Yours Hands Africa works side-by-side in a partnership with women, families and youth in Uganda. Promoting change through cooperative participation and action, Into Your Hands has been empowering youth and families in rural Uganda through education and enterprise development for nine years. The enterprise program, sending piglets home with students and with a piglet return as a payback from the first litter has been recognized for modeling by the government. Every dollar donated will go towards empowering youth and families in rural Uganda.
