A couple of months ago a potential patient called and explained that it was time to try hearing aids again. The patient’s previous attempts with amplification including mail order devices and hearing aids from an ENT had not been successful. The patient had given up as the devices were not helping to understand speech better and oxygen tubing behind the ears made the style of devices the patient was wearing uncomfortable and at times painful. The patient had gone years without hearing well, but could no longer tolerate the frustration, miscommunication and misunderstandings that were happening with family and friends.

As is customary with each patient, during our initial consultation we discussed the difficulties the patient was having, as well as possible solutions. After our conversation, the size and shape of the patient’s ears and ear canals were evaluated, ear wax was removed, and a comprehensive audiometric evaluation (hearing test) was performed. We then discussed what would be the best solution given all the variables specific to the individual patient.

After considering the pros and cons of each option, we decided a completely-in-canal (CIC) device that fit deeply in the ear canal would be the best solution. We then made earmold impressions, had the devices manufactured, and at a later appointment, fit the hearing aids to the patient. Once the initial fit and follow up visits were completed, the patient was very happy and for the first time in many years, was able to enjoy conversations with family and loved ones during Thanksgiving dinner.

At Blue Ribbon Hearing & Tinnitus Center, similar situations occur on a daily basis as we work with each individual patient to ensure they are able to achieve the best hearing possible. In order to achieve optimal results, we work with multiple manufacturers and have every type and style of daily wear hearing aid available. Each patient’s hearing loss and other factors are unique and as such every solution is unique and customized. If you or a loved one is struggling with hearing or understanding, or with hearing aids, call today to schedule an appointment for a consultation.
