Choosing your agent is a big deal. We are talking about one of the most important decisions and biggest investments many individuals will ever make. With that said, you must choose your realtor partner with knowledge in your pocket. Here are a few questions we feel are important for you to ask your potential real estate agent.
How long have they have been in the business? Experience does matter. How many transactions do you close a year? An agent could be in business for 20 years but if they are only closing 3-4 deals a year I would say they aren’t hustling too much and that lack of hustle or being able to get transactions to the closing table will hurt you. How many homes have you sold in my neighborhood or do you sell properties like mine? This is a great question to know. If you live in a popular subdivision and they have a great record of selling homes in your neighborhood that will benefit you. If you live on a 40 acre ranch east of town and they have never sold acreage property that is not good. How will you communicate with me during the process? Communication is one of the biggest complaints with clients regarding their agents so this is an important question. Communication is key. Finally I would ask, or it will be presented to you more than likely, how much will it cost me to sell? It is true that the agents that discount the most are the ones you want to stay away from. The 1.5% difference in one commission to the next may save you $1,500 BUT it usually always comes back costing you way more than that in poor negotiations. You want an agent that is confident in what they do and how they do things and have the track record to prove it.
