If you can’t seem to save money, it might be time to change your habits when it comes to saving money and the way you spend money. Keep in mind it’s only temporary:
Limit spending on luxury or non –essential items. Visualize your new home every time you are tempted to spend money on things you don’t need and put that cash towards the down payment. Don’t use the credit card!
Spend Less on Entertainment. Eat at home. Look for new recipes or learn new skills so you improve and are more creative cooking at home. Rent movies online from M-GO (on smart TV and Roku) which often has movies still in theaters for a lower rental rate than buying a ticket.
Cut your clothing budget. Think before you buy. Do I really need this? Where can I get something new to me but perhaps gently worn? What about outlets, consignment, thrift shops or a friend who doesn’t want an item anymore? Shop sales and use coupons.
Postpone a vacation. Or better yet, take a smaller vacation not far from home for a long weekend and not a week.
Avoid an unnecessary purchase. Postpone large purchases until after you’ve bought your home.
Think about a second job or overtime. If all else fails maybe it’s time to take a second job or work overtime. Remember it’s temporary. Pick up extra shifts. Or do jobs that help the community like lawn work, walking the dog, snow removal, and teaching classes all adding extra money for the house. Call Frank, Jan or Mitch if you need help, 303-450-1650.
