Richard Denny’s Ballet Now is celebrating our 15th year in Brighton. I have been the Artistic Director and Owner for 7 years, taking over after Richard passed away. Some days it feels like I took over yesterday and others it feels like 20 years! I have seen Brighton and Ballet Now grow dramatically over the years. I remember a time before Starbucks and when a 30 student enrollment was good.
When I took over I was determined to carry on the vision Richard Denny had for Ballet Now; to bring exceptional ballet training to Brighton. To make it affordable, family focused, and fun all while developing strong, confident kids. Our mission has been to provide a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters a love of the arts and to better the community. The first couple of years were trying. Brighton was hit hard by the recession and dance classes are often the first thing to be cut from family budgets. To keep the studio open I worked a full-time day job and waitressed on the weekends. I didn’t have a day off for nearly 6 months! Thankfully, the small student base was very loyal and supportive and slowly the studio grew.
In the past few years the studio has over tripled in size. I have witnessed many of my dancers go from toddlers to high schoolers to college students and beyond. Our dancers have gone on to Arts High Schools and College Dance degrees. Last year Ballet Now became a chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts; becoming the 3rd chapter to induct students in the state of Colorado, joining about 3000 students nationwide. Throughout all our growth we have remained dedicated to our vision and it shows in our students; over 70% of our studio has been with us for more than 2 years and 50% of that for at least 4 years. Without that commitment from of the community this couldn’t be our reality. We do not have enough gratitude to express what that commitment has meant to us.
It is the mission of Ballet Now and myself to better the community through the arts. We know how transformative dance can be and we create opportunities for powerful change in children’s lives. Discipline, teamwork, commitment, leadership, and passion are all grown on the dance floor. Theodore Roosevelt said “Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing” and I couldn’t agree more! So give us a call, drop by and try out a class, have your life transformed!
