Do you enjoy foods packed full of delicious flavors but wish they didn’t come with all the chemicals and preservatives you can’t pronounce?

With the trending interest in agritourism, and specifically in farm fresh and farm-to-table culinary experiences, Lulu’s Farm is offering a new program we’re calling the Backyard Chef Series. It’s family friendly fun three-hour demonstration workshops centered around easy ways to prepare and preserve farm fresh healthy foods so you can have them year round.

We’re bringing in experts to cover everything from easy refrigerator pickling and traditional brine pickling, to making those mouth watering fruit butters, jams and jellies (sweet, savory, and spicy), how to make your own spice mixes and rubs, grilling tips and tricks, and even how to easily make tamales and empanadas. Making your own is a great way to not only eat healthier and save a lot of money, but also a great activity for parents and kids wanting ways to spend quality time together.

We’ll kick off July 15th with Easy Refrigerator Pickling using a “bread & butter” style recipe that works well for cucumbers, green beans, and more. Following that on July 22, we’ll cover Brine Pickling with a more traditional dill brine. In August we’ll move on to fruit butters, jams and jellies as well as the spicy jams and jellies that are so popular right now, and follow the harvest calendar into peppers and more. The workshops cover food safety/sanitation, theory, how-to demonstration and hands-on when possible. Participants get to leave with the products covered each workshop.
