Declutter: Create 2 boxes per room. Label them, “Throw Away and Give Away.” It will make moving easier when the time comes. Getting rid of stuff will make your house look more spacious.
Move from the Top Down: Dampen a microfiber cloth and start cleaning from high to low, allowing dust to settle on the ground where it can be swept or vacuumed up. Don’t’ forget the cobwebs often found in the ceiling corners and high walls.
Devil in Details: Look through your house as if you’re the buyer. Clean drapes, sofas, chair covers. Get finger prints off cabinets, door handles and light switches. Don’t forget baseboards. You might have to paint.
Pay Extra Attention to the Kitchen and Bathrooms: Clean all appliances. Make bathrooms sparkle. Remove calcium buildup.
Show Case the Windows: Wash the windows inside and out. Use newspaper so there aren’t any streaks.
As we head into spring, it’s the perfect time clean your house regardless if you plan to sell or not. But if you do decide now is the time then take the time to make your home clean, fresh, and inviting. Elimination of what isn’t necessary will become very important later once you sell and have to move.
