Offered by Joseph M Smith, MD – Premier Pediatrics
At least 1 in 5 children have a diagnosable mental health condition. When these conditions are left unaddressed, this can lead to a decrease in quality of life or worse. Rates of depression and anxiety in children and adolescents continue to rise. Suicide continues to be a leading cause of death in adolescents in most states.
It is well known that early access to mental health services makes the greatest impact on these challenges. Yet, access to mental health services often seems to be beyond reach. Many barriers to these services exist such as insurance coverage, distance to a mental health provider, and time, just to name a few.
Premier Pediatrics, together with the Colorado State Innovation Model initiative, has decided to take on this challenge by doing what we can to make mental health services more readily available to those who need it. In addition to services that we have already offered, we have incorporated “telehealth” or virtual visits with a licensed therapist/counselor or a psychiatrist at our office. We will also be incorporating live counselors soon. These two services provide a close and familiar place to receive mental health services confidentially, right in your doctor’s office. Most insurances will cover one of these two services.
We are committed to eliminating the barriers to mental health by implementing these programs, and hope many of our precious children, adolescents, and young adults will benefit greatly. For more information, please call: 303-655-1685.
