Keeping your home “show ready” for potential buyers is different during the holidays. Decoration is different, cold weather means closed windows, and curb appeal takes on a slightly different meaning. Keep these ideas in mind for your winter home sale:
Curb Appeal: You can’t rely on your lush lawn and landscaping during the winter. Instead, add pops of color in the form of simple decorations to your porch and yard. Consider a wreath for the front door, or gourds on the front steps.
Lighted Walkways: Consider getting solar lights to line your walkways. With the sun setting as early as 4:35pm during the winter, having solar lights can add a nice visual touch, as well as a safety benefit.
Holiday Decorations: Be sure your holiday decorations keep the focus on the house. Adding a Christmas Tree and presents can take up some room, so be sure that your home is still easy to navigate.
Details Matter: Because the focus is indoors during the winter months, be sure you’ve tested your hot water heater, your furnace, and open and close all the windows to be sure you’re not blindsided by an unforeseen repair. Also, keep up on the dusting! Winter months are notorious for extra dust collection.
Fresh Air: Closed windows mean less fresh air in the house. Be sure your filters have been changed and keep the air circulating with the fan so when potential buyers arrive, the home smells fresh.
Don’t Stress: The most important thing to remember is that the holidays are still an important time of year for you and your family. Set yourself up for success, but remember that your home is still a place of warmth and love for yourself and your own family. So be sure to spend more energy on enjoying the season with your loved ones.
